South Sound Magazine: “Site-Development Permit for Good Neighbor Village Approved”
The Pierce County Planning Department has officially approved the site-development permit for Tacoma Rescue Mission’s Good Neighbor Village, the organization announced in a press release this week.
Work is now set to begin on sewers, water systems, community facilities, and other maintenance on and around the property, which will support the future homes and gathering spaces planned for the development.
The goal behind Good Neighbor Village is to provide housing to those who are transitioning out of homelessness, the release noted. Once completed, the building will have 285 single-cottage homes, where tenants will be expected to pay rent and uphold building regulations and guidelines. Thirty-five of the rooms will be reserved for community members and volunteers who will live on site to provide support.
Good Neighbor Village residents will have built-in amenities and the opportunity to work at the village. On-site services such as health and dental care, mental-health counseling, and addiction-recovery treatment will also be provided.
“The Good Neighbor Village represents a vision to provide long-term housing, dignity, and supportive community as well as services for those transitioning out of chronic homelessness,” the release said.
